Stories That Move

Hey, I’m Zac —a filmmaker based in North Vancouver. I specialize in documentary and branded content, with an approach rooted in authentic, human stories.

Before film, I was on the Canadian Ski Team, which taught me a lot about focus, teamwork, and pushing through challenges—skills I now bring to every project, whether it’s a fast-paced shoot or a long-haul doc.

A bit of my story:

It all started with a fascination with how skiers would land their jumps to the beat of a song in ski movies. I knew quickly that I needed to be a part of that. I received a Sony Handycam for my bar-mitzvah and was off to the races filming ski edits, skate edits and more. But I still had a long ski career to tackle. I spent the next 11 years of my life bashing bumps as a competitive mogul skier, eventually as a member of the Canadian Ski Team, all while pursuing filmmaking on the side with the little time I had left. I made more edits, numerous web series and a feature documentary “Bumps” which was essentially a love letter to a sport that meant so much to me.
While mogul skiing held such a huge part of my heart, eventually it became clear that it was time to hang up the bib, for a few reasons.
1. I was ready to commit to this whole filmmaking thing full-time.
2. I was ready to feel like a human again.
The further I progressed in the sport, the more I felt like the sport became my identity. I felt like a skiing robot, a number on a ranking list. It was time to turn the page.
My bittersweet departure from the sport was immediately met with a growing hunger for storytelling in the world of sport. I wanted to apply my experience as a competitive athlete to my filmmaking. Make films that on the surface level were about sports and athletes, but underneath were about the people involved in these sports with the goal of showing viewers that these athletes are really just human. Quicker than expected, the snowball that I call my film career began to roll, and thankfully is still rolling today. I've had the chance to make films for brands and broadcast covering subject matter such as mental health, addiction, identity, work/life balance, emotional control, eating distorders, friendship/community and lots more. I’m incredibly fortunate to spend my time shining a light on interesting people in sport and the outdoors, and call it work.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity that the world of documentary has provided me to take a step into other people’s lives and see the world through their eyes. I feel like I’m constantly growing and learning from these new perspectives and my relationship with sport is always evolving. I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to keep the cameras rolling.
